10 things to consider when hiring a contractor

Hiring a contractor is a huge step towards making the home of your dreams a reality. We know hiring a contractor isn't something you do everyday, so here are some tips to get you started!

1. Would you trust them in your home?

Most of the time, contractors will be inside your home and around your family and personal belongings. It's important to make sure whomever you hire is trustworthy. You can have full confidence in the professionalism of Pineapple Renovations and our team.

2. Have you seen samples of their work?

Contractors should offer to show you examples of their work. You should pay close attention to the finishes of a project. For example, does the project look half finished? There's nothing worse than a contractor finishing most of the project but leaving little details unfinished. At PR we ensure clients are 100% satisfied before dubbing a project "complete".

3. What is included in the estimate?

Often times a general price is thrown out. It is important to know what is included in that price so that you aren't shocked at what you received vs. didn't receive.

4. Are they listening to you?

Sometimes contractors dismiss homeowner's concerns/wants. Pineapple Renovations takes the time to listen to your ideas while also providing design suggestions that may improve the functionality of your space! Make sure that they actually take your comments and design requests to heart. You don't want to find out in the end that they were ignoring something really important to you.

5. How do they handle changes in design/materials?

Things come up. It is important for contractors to communicate changes in design and materials to the homeowner so that they are always on the same page. Ask them how they handle this before hiring!

6. Will they clean up at the end of the day?

Living in a construction site is hard. At Pineapple Renovations, we do our best to keep our working space safe and tidy so that you aren't left cleaning up after us.

7. Are they the lowest bid?

Being the cheapest isn't always the best. Often times lower bids are made to secure a job and then once work starts additional costs begin to add up. They could also be skimping on materials or quality of the work so it's important to take a look at what's included and what's not. We may not always be the lowest but we provide detailed scopes of work with our estimates that include every aspect of our projects and we will certainly deliver a product you love.

8. Are they licensed, bonded, and insured?

This provides protection and peace of mind for you as well as the contractor.

9. Do they have good reviews?

Reviews are a great reflection of how happy prior customers are with their work. If there is something that stands out in a review that causes concern, ask them about it!

10. Are they Pineapple Renovations?

Ok... we would actually love to help you with your home projects. We also offer design consultation and project management if you like our style but are out of our service area.

We hope these tips are helpful for you in hiring a contractor to help in your home. As always, please reach out to us if you have any questions!
